Message from the President.

Dear CFA member,
(Picture of Debbie Goddard)
It's December, which is a hectic time of year for many of us. Students are busy preparing for final exams as we try to plan schedules for next semester. Others might be in the process of figuring out how to spend our various upcoming winter breaks. The Campus Freethought Alliance is also moving forward and planning events and other developments for the next semester and beyond.

Many student freethinkers were able to attend a March on Washington by secular Americans that was held on November 2nd in Washington, D.C. It was a fantastic time, with about 2,500 attendees from all over the United States and excellent speakers. I had the chance to personally meet CFA members who had traveled from Ohio, Florida, California, Missouri, Illinois, Maryland, Virginia and several other places. One group of students from Nebraska even drove over twenty hours each way to attend the historic event! The CFAers I met were revved up by the experience to go back home and do great things for rationalism, both on their own campuses and on a grander scale. I look forward to meeting more CFA members at other events in the future.

For those of you with CFA groups on your campus, now is a good time to start considering ideas and plans for any major events next semester. Consider plugging in to the CFA's Speakers' Bureau, for example, inviting a major speaker to your campus. You can start that process by visiting the "Resources for Group Leaders" section of our website. While there, make sure to check out the other CFA group resources.

For those of you who don't yet have a CFA group on your campus, why not begin to create one. CFA has welcomed over 30 new groups in the last semester! If you are looking to launch a group next semester, you can start now by finding out your campus administration's process for founding new student clubs. You can download flyers from the CFA website to post around your campus in order find other interested students at your school. And be sure to follow the other organizing advice in CFA's free Organizing Guide.

Lastly, I invite everyone to play a larger role in the CFA next semester by volunteering for one of the ad hoc CFA Service Committees that will be launched at the beginning of next semester. By joining a CFA Service Committee, you can personally help advance the student rationalist movement on the national level, and gain valuable volunteer and leadership experience in the process. The following three committees will be created: Activism Campaigns and Publicity, Membership and Outreach, and Publications. Stay on the lookout for details in upcoming issues of the Campus Inquirer. The success of the  movement rests on the many people working together to accomplish our shared vision.

I take pride in my involvement with CFA and I look forward to working with many of you in the semesters ahead to advance reason, free inquiry, and the scientific outlook on campuses all over the world.

Yours,

Debbie Goddard
